How Orthodontics Work

Whether our patient is a child, a teenager or an adult, the goal of orthodontic treatment is the same: to straighten teeth so that they look and function better.

To achieve this, braces or clear aligners are used to apply gentle pressure to your teeth so they will shift into the correct position over a period of months or years.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are made of either metal or ceramic. Used as a go-to method for decades to straighten teeth, advances in orthodontic treatment in recent years has seen braces come of age. They are now more comfortable, low-profile, and easier to maintain.

How Braces Straighten Teeth

Patients with braces will have continuous pressure applied to the teeth over a pre-determined period of time. This pressure slowly and gradually shifts teeth into their new, correct positions.

As pressure is applied and teeth move, the bone changes shape to accommodate the teeth's new positions.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign clear aligners gradually straighten your smile using a series of clear, individually customized plastic aligners, which are adjusted over a period of time.

Invisalign clear aligners have convenience built in - they are removable for when you prefer that no one know that you are straightening your teeth, or for when you are playing sports or a musical instrument.

The aligners look similar to custom whitening trays and are easy to insert. They can be removed so you can eat, drink, brush, and floss without worry.

Because they are removable, you won't have any dietary restrictions with Invisalign.
